Hand Sanitiser – World Health Organisation Specification

During the 2020 Coronavirus Covid19 epidemic, the lads and lasses at Old Bakery Gin stopped producing Gin and Rum and concentrated on producing hand sanitiser, both liquid 80% alcohol and Gel formula at 70% alcohol. HMRC Customs & Excise would not give us the Licence to purchase denatured* Alcohol which is the main component of Hand Sanitiser, none of our suppliers would break the rules and supply with this product. It the illicit spirit (no pun intended) of Old Bakery Gin, we had the choice of doing nothing (and moaning a lot) and trying to do something. This is what you do when, when you can’t beat the system !! Make your own Alcohol …..J *Denatured alcohol means some additives have been added to the alcohol so that it cannot be consumed, thus meaning no ‘spirit duty’ is charged on the product. We made a commercial decision not exploit the Covid-19 crisis by creating a branded hand sanitiser that could be sold via retail to the public, instead we decided to focus on selling to the frontline services NHS Ministry of Defence – Whitehall Metropolitan Police – Gold Command British Army – throughout UK Local Authority We are giving hand sanitiser away free of charge to a London Homeless outreach service run by medical students. Despite being unable to purchase Denatured Alcohol we are now Officially Supplying.
